10 Ways To Treat Dry Skin

I am one of those people that prefer’s winter over summer and fall over spring, the layering, the holiday spiced lattes, chunky knits and over the knee boots. The one thing I can’t help but dread is my constant dry skin during those chilly months. It is irritating and always a battle finding the right balance between products and techniques to get things back to normal. Thankfully the internet is filled with great blogs and hacks that we can all try and figure out the best for our skin.

I have combined my top ten tips and hacks that I have personally found to be benefiting and have saved me throwing in the towel with this dry skin!

1.Eat those good Fat’s

-Remember the saying ” you are what you eat?” well this also factors in with skin care. those good fatty foods help retain moisture. My favorites are avocado and olive oil. I would also recommend getting on a good Omega-3 supplement if you don’t get enough in your diet.

 2. Take advantage of steam!

-I like to sleep with a humidifier for many reasons but especially when my face is dry and needs love.  This gives your skin and moisturizer that extra boost your face needs. Even steaming up the shower before washing will give your skin that extra boost, Just be careful not to shower in super hot water because heat does tend to cause more dryness.

3. Apply Moisturizer on wet skin

This one is simple but really makes a huge difference. Even with my face, I tend not to completely dry off before adding my moisturizer. This helps keep additional water moisture on the skin as well as lotion or oils. It’s best to apply everything while the skin is damp so don’t wait too long in between steps of product application!

4. Apply Serum before your sheet mask

Being that serum’s absorb more efficiently than your traditional moisturizer, Applying it to damp skin right before your favorite mask helps boost not only the mask but the serum itself. Resulting in a deeper hydration and longer lasting results.

5. Exfoliate that dry skin

You have to work hard to get rid of that flaky skin and exfoliation will get you where you need to be. The last thing you want is a build up of dead skin cells, it will only interfere with your skin absorbing any moisture. I make sure to gently exfoliate two to three times a week for the best results and no irritation.

6. Drink Water, Lots of It

Don’t forget to drink at least the recommended 8 glasses of water a day!

7.  Apply aloe vera to itchy dry patches

This is one of my favorite plants to have, it’s pretty, easy to care for and has so many skin care benefits! Cutting a piece off and squeezing the aloe vera gel on any dry patch creates instant relief

8. Avoid harsh acne treatments

Dry skin can be very temperamental and sensitive. Durning the winter I would recommend steering clear of those harsh acne medicated topical treatments as this can create more dryness. Instead, use products that help cleanse the skin and help with dryness I highly recommend Belif Skincare I have been using their witch hazel herbal extract toner, true cream moisturizing bomb and cleansing herb water and I love how gentle and moisturizing these products are! You can find the direct links to each product under my favorite products page!

9. Use A Facial Mist

A good hydrating mist will make a world of a difference for those times throughout the day you need a refreshing spurt of moisture. This is one of my favorite items to carry around in my bag especially during the colder months!

10. Use an overnight hydrating serum or mask

Beauty sleep is a real thing! Our skin works hard while we sleep to regenerate itself and rid itself of dead skin cells. It can benefit you if you add a few drops of your favorite serum to a good hydrogel mask before calling it a night!

Why it took me 2.5 years to change my last name after I married my husband

I am a bit embarrassed to admit it took me this long to officially change my last name to Garcia. It was facebook official the day we got married, I had been waiting awhile to marry this man and making it facebook official felt good! We got married June 2oth 2014 in San Marcos, California. We had a lot planned for our future so we opted for a small ceremony at the courthouse. We didn’t have a traditional wedding because we had a big move to Arizona planned in November and that took priority financially. Looking back on it now we both can’t wait to have a big ceremony with our families and friends for our vowel renewal later down the road.

Being so caught up with having to leave our jobs, our families, and getting settled into this new state, for awhile it hadn’t crossed my mind to change my last name. I always would tell myself “Get it changed” I can’t blame it on anything other than procrastination!

Now that we have our new additions baby Eli, our dog Orbison, we were settled in AZ and I couldn’t imagine my life without my husband ever so why not now? The week of Valentines 2017′  came along and I thought this would be the perfect Valentines day surprise. So without any hesitation, I stopped procrastinating and dragged myself and Eli downtown and waited in the awful lines that come with government facilities. I waited with eagerness I wanted this bad now that it was happening. Once I left the building I couldn’t help but ask myself ” Why didn’t I do that sooner?!” We had a dinner planned the night before Valentines, yes we are those people, It was still a couple days away and I was getting impatient. When It finally was time to hand him his card with my surprise he told me that it was the best surprise and that he loved me, and I could feel it from him that It was the last piece to our marriage that bonded us closer.

For those wives that procrastinate like I did my advice to you is don’t wait! Take the time out of your day and make your way over to the social security office and do it, I promise you, it is so worth it!

Save On Yoga Gear- Yoga Club Unboxing Review

We all know how name brand yoga wear or work-out gear in general, can be pricey. More often than not we settle for the less conventional attire. I have to admit I have never been one to spend $60 on yoga pants or sports bras, But I always admired them and how much support they offered!

I received my first monthly box from Yoga Club and was super excited about what this box was all about. I mean it’s a surprise in a box and who doesn’t love that?

Yoga Club is a curated name brand yoga wear monthly subscription box that offers an outfit in each box! They offer three different packages and their base package starts at $45 depending on your style preferences. I wasn’t sure what to expect especially since I am no yoga expert but I do love yoga! I will also admit I have worn these pieces out and about on those days you just want to live in active wear, I know I’m not the only one with days like that!

My box came with a hooded tunic, sports bra, and compression leggings. Everything fits perfect! I like the fact that they also offer free exchanges as well as the ability to cancel anytime. I would definitely recommend this box to anyone that likes to indulge in new gear without breaking the bank or having shoppers remorse, I found this to be really worth it!

Sunday Baking- A Delicious Breakfast Cookie Recipe

My Husband works on the weekends and Sundays are usually the day where I can recharge with the kids and I don’t even dare think about Monday until later in the evening. I like to take things slow on Sundays, I use that word lightly when I say slow I mean not leave the house but stay in and make sure laundry is done and the house is clean. On those good weeks when I have it all together before Sunday I love to bake! I bake so that it makes things a little easier through-out the week, and these Breakfast cookies are the golden ticket to  a quick and delicious breakfast option when I make them!

Updating A Room With Old Furniture

Ever sit and wonder “How can I change this room without spending too much money?” I do all the time. I change things often and I can’t always go on a shopping spree for new decor. But, I’ve come to realize I like the excitement of these types of challenges.

I don’t like to admit the hours I spend on Pinterest sorting my different inspirations. I like to pick out certain accents and styles. I can’t really put my finger on my exact home style just yet. As you can see in this grainy photo I found on my husband’s phone, I had this black cabinet near my front door entry way. It was purchased from craigslist a couple years ago and came painted with some very thick black paint. If you have been following my feed on Instagram you can tell I have been digging the neutral colors vs darker colors. I still love darker woods but this black just wasn’t cutting it for my new vision of interior decor.

It just so happened that while this cabinet was downstairs near the entry way, we needed a table upstairs in our loft area. I was searching for something good, something mid-century or rattan but functional. A month of searching garage sale sites, thrift shops, etc… I wasn’t finding what I had in mind for the right price. So I decided to find a new purpose for this black cabinet and move it upstairs, But first, this baby needed a face-lift.

I decided to do away with the doors and after a whole can of paint thinner and a day of scraping and sanding we discovered the beautiful light wood surface I was hoping for. If you haven’t already guessed, I have a major love for natural wood and this fit the bill. Of course, it wasn’t what I originally had planned like the mid-century or Rattan, but I fell in love with this piece more than ever!

Although my husband would disagree with me, I have to say these knobs from Hobby Lobby went well with our new piece! Our main purpose for this piece was to store our records and record player, but it’s definitely turned into something much more than that. This whole project cost us less than $30 in supplies including the knobs, We already owned a sander, but that was only $20 at Walmart and it has been a handy tool for projects like this!

Before spending up towards $100+ on new furniture I would highly recommend looking around your space and see what improvements are possible to achieve your desired look. If you ever want to feel inspired aside from Pinterest I suggest hitting up your local second-hand shop a lot of these pieces are from my local goodwills and of course Target, I have come across some amazing finds once I know what I am looking for. I really hope I have inspired you to take on this super fun challenge of updating your room with old furniture pieces!
